Who I Am.

I am a 14 year old student studying in the ninth grade and my name is Sonam Choney Droelma. I have always been a, well, outspoken individual and have loved writing and although I have procrastinated quite a bit, this blog has finally come to life. Even though sometimes deadlines for articles can be stressful, the actual writing process itself is immensely enjoyable.

Where I’m From.

I live in the small landlocked country called Bhutan. However, for a period of time, I lived in Australia. Living in Australia has taught me quite a lot, the importance of integrating a touch of modernisation in the things I do, to be independent, to rely on myself to become successful. On the other hand, being brought up in Bhutan has instilled values that one may argue to be the opposite of the ones mentioned above. I learnt to value familial relationships, to value elders and to value culture and tradition. Being a buddhist, (courtesy of being born into a buddhist family) has taught me to be kind, to learn to let go, to be able to adapt. I believe that a huge part of who I am is due to my upbringing. Although many may argue that we are what we make of ourselves, I believe it is also the way we are moulded when young that has allowed us to “make what we wish of ourselves”.

What I Love.

Beside my love for writing and literature, I enjoy theatre and dance. Although dancing is just a hobby of mine, something I do whenever I have free time, theatre is a much more professional endeavour. I have been on stage for about five years (on-and-off), sometimes I MC or host and sometimes I act. I’ve never had stage fright, rather, I’ve felt adrenaline and excitement rush through me whenever I’m about to go on stage. I’d say being on stage is my happy place.
